Sustainability & Governance
Key Sustainability Topics at a Glance
Sustainability considerations are integral to our business operations and daily decisions. We take a measured approach to sustainability as we strive to drive our purpose — Enable Possibility — across our business.
We work with our clients to provide services and insurance coverage that help them safeguard their future in a world where uncertainty touches every aspect of their lives. Our business is built on long-term thinking and an established history of delivering reliable risk management expertise to our markets.
Our strategy is structured around five core impact areas that drive our sustainability initiatives. By organizing our strategy under these pillars, we seek to encompass Arch’s collective achievements and sustainability progress across our operations.
Our Sustainability Framework

BUSINESS
We offer services and insurance coverages that support our clients through major loss and improve their resiliency; we integrate sustainability factors into our underwriting to reduce risk and capture opportunities for stakeholder benefit.

OPERATIONS
We actively manage sustainability risks and embed compliance, transparency, cybersecurity and resilience across all areas of our operations, protecting our people and customers who entrust us with their personal information and business interests.

INVESTMENTS
We believe incorporating certain nonfinancial sustainability factors into investment selection and risk management can potentially enhance long-term investment returns.

PEOPLE
We are committed to investing in the personal and professional success of our employees and creating long-term sustainable growth for our organization.

COMMUNITIES
Striving to make a meaningful impact by investing in our communities is ingrained in Arch’s core Values, woven into the fabric of our corporate culture.

Our Sustainability Priorities
In 2024, we continued to empower our teams to drive progress collaboratively, integrating sustainability-driven thinking and decision-making into the fabric of our company and reinforcing the role of sustainability in our operations.
Our sustainability topics are defined here and align with the expectations of our stakeholders. We continue to strengthen across each dimension and will continue to evaluate our sustainability strategy based on evolving trends and valuable stakeholder feedback.

Marcy Rathman, Chief Sustainability Officer
Marcy Rathman, Arch’s Chief Sustainability Officer, is charged with coordinating the oversight and management of Arch’s sustainability efforts. She was promoted to the role in May 2019, when Arch launched its formal sustainability program. Prior to that, she served as an attorney for Arch for close to 20 years, supporting the General Counsel and many of Arch’s governance and compliance policies. With this background, she was well-positioned to lead and oversee the company’s sustainability efforts and the annual comprehensive sustainability reports.
She joined Arch’s legal team in December of 2000 and has been a key member of the corporate legal team, providing risk management oversight, supporting Arch’s worldwide retirement savings and equity plans and enforcing our corporate governance policies. Under her guidance, Arch launched a sustainability strategy and coordinated the teams and processes to support it.
She manages a number of cross-functional teams responsible for sustainability decision-making and reporting, including oversight of sustainable business practices. She works closely with the Arch’s executive leaders to enact recommendations that align with our sustainability strategy and shareholder goals. Additionally, she provides quarterly reports to the Nominating and Governance Committee of our Board of Directors.
